I posted this in GD only got one response, thought I'd try here.
Do I have this straight? With the Sig P239, .40 caliber mags will work with
the 357Sig round, but 357Sig mags won't work in the .40 Sig P239?

Yes, that is correct. .357 Sig goes into a .40 mag, but a .40 will not go into a .357 Sig mag.
