What are the opinions out there on Walther P99s?
Good, bad, indifferent?

It is my number one choice great trigger & IMO perhaps the most under rated pistol on the market.

P99 is my EDC.  That pistol has been through courses at Thunder Ranch, TDI and Blackwater and has never let me down.  The new PPQ looks really interesting to.  If I were in the market for another 9mm, I would check that out.

I had one and sold it (idiot!), it was a great gun with an awsone trigger and short reset (speaking of the AS model). Much more muzzle flip than any other polymer 9mm that is about the same size IMO.

Definitely a solid gun. I like them.

I LOVE the P99, actually suggest any women looking into shooting try a P99.  One word of advice however, generally very reliable...if however you happen to have an issue with it just plan on paying.  Since S&W took over Walther's stateside business, their warantee work has been non existent according to internet rumor mill.

What's the difference between a P99 and a PPQ?

On my short list of pistols I want.  Walther makes good pistols my PPS has been more than awesome.

Aside from the unnecessary hump in the trigger guard and a too-smooth grip, I think they're a solid design.  The PPQ is on my "to buy someday, maybe" list.

newer p99s lack the hump have longer magazine release and more cocking serations on the slide.

I've had one for 6 - 7 years.  Mine is 100% reliable and accurate as hell.  It's the kind of pistol a person never gets rid of.  Mine is old enough to be double action/single action, and the single action trigger is smooth as hell.  This is a great pistol made by a legendary gun manufacturer.

this is the version I have

its the 2003 model, before it was smith and wessoned.
I like it a lot, its very similar to glock (imagine that) and shoots very well. I also bought a sprinco recoil reducer for it,
not that it needed it but i like having a stainless steel dual spring guide rod in place of the original one.

shameless plug for sprinco
