What do you guys think about it in general, in terms of reliability etc...oh yah, does it have a slide release lever?

TIA

I've owned three of them.  They are great weapons.  They do tend to bite the web of my hand though.  The slide clips the web between my thumb and index fingure.  Heck, it's drawn blood before.  As far as reliability, it's a Sig.  They are some of the most reliable weapons on the surface of the earth.  The 232 is no different.  Only real downside is you can get weapons that are the same size or smaller in better calibers.  I switched to a Smith 337 Titanium in 38 for my pocket gun.  Loaded with the new Speer 135gr +p Gold dots it will meet FBI specs and weights 11.7oz.  Plus, it's smaller than my 232's were.  If I can carry a weapon the size of a 232 then I can carry my Colt Officers.  I'd much rather have 7+1 rounds of 45 than 7+1 rounds of 380.

Yes they shoot very well.  Anythig smaller in the grip is trouble for my big hands to shoot.   There is no slide release lever.  You must slingshot the slide.  The  mag release is located at the bottom/rear of the mag well and the only other external thingamajig is the decocker.  The slide occasionally bites the web of my hand although friends of mine who have shot one don't have the same problem.  They may profile larger than a snubbie revolver but are nice and thin and take up little room inside a belt.  And yes, however you slice it, they are 380's.

Well, I was thinking about getting one for my Fiance, and she has small hands, so do you think slide bite would be a problem?  Do you think a Kahr would be better?

Well, a Kahr is pretty nice as well.  I've owned a PM9 and liked it, just a little snappy in recoil.  Also, you'll notice on the 232 that a small 9mm will recoil less.  The primary reason for this is that just about all 380's have a fixed barrel and are straight blowback action.  Where a 9mm or above will have a Browning action or something like it.  It will suck up a little bit of the recoil impulse.  I know my HK P2000SK had less kick than the 232.  Pretty much the same size but the HK shoots like butter.  If it's for your Fiance I'd lean towards a revolver.  Just depends on whether she is gonna shoot it alot.  If she's not a hardcore firearms person a revolver is simple to use and there's hardly anything to break.  Also, a 38 special has plenty of power with the right loads.

I have one and my 5 ft tall 100lb wife loves it.  If you have big hands it will bite you.  The Sig has been 100 pct reliable.  Nice and flat, easy to conceal in a purse or belt.  I have a PPKS also.  Although I like them both the Sig is the choice for carry.

Mine has the Hogue finger grips and has never bit my hand, for what that's worth.  Excellent pistols, very thin and easy to carry,  points as naturally as your finger.  The only thing I've found fault with is the slide lock - it has a tendency to pop off the frame during cleaning and is a nuisance to reinstall.

I have a Sig 232.  Actually, it now belongs to my wife under her application of the 9/10ths law.  The pistol has been reliable and surprisingly accurate.  I, er, she has the blued version that has an aluminum frame.  They also make one that is all stainless steel, but it weighs at least 4 ounces more.  The downside is the blued finish is so-so.  It scratches easily (like any blued finish) and if you carry it next to your body say hello to Mr. Rust.  If I get another, and I may, I would go with the version that has the aluminum frame and the stainless slide.

The grips that come with the pistol are comfortable but they are bigger than they have to be.  At some point I will replace them with something thinner.  If I get it back, that is.  One other quirk is the position of the mag release.  The mags can take some force to rip them out of the mag well.

It is a quality gun that works.  Yea, it is only a .380, but I like it.  Dammit.

Best of luck,
Cheese

Oh, one more thing.  Take her to the shop and make sure she has the hand strength to operate the slide on the Sig.  My wife had trouble with the Kahr K9 I used to own.  Just a quick mention.

If she has trouble working the slide look at the Beretta 86.  It has a pop up barrel, you can load the chamber without working the slide.
