| I'm looking for a .45 ACP handgun as you can see in the title. I feel most comfortable with that caliber, it's easily controllable and I can get quicker follow-up shots with it. This is primarily going to be a range gun that may turn into a carry piece down the road. So, with that said, I need something that is going to be reliable, durable, I'd like it to have an accessory rail already built in, and a magazine capacity of 7/8 + 1. I know I'm going to get a lot of 1911 suggestions and that's fine, I'm also considering the Sig 220, and whatever else you can think of. Finally, I'd like to keep the price less than $800. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, MJD. |

I would go with the sig.I love the 1911 design, love my kimbers.I've recently started having problems with my stainless II.I also loved my sig 220 I had and had more rounds though it than my kimbers and never had a single problem with it except I was stupid enough to sell when I jumped on the kimber band wagon.I would go with the sig it won't let you down. suresot45. |

GO HK! They shoot better then any factory gun I have had in 45 save for my 625's! You want a utility gun that goes bang ever time! The USP full or compact size is the answer! Granted the magazines are pricey! But, if you are betting your safety or that of your family well look no further! It is has a rather simple manual of arms! Accuracy? More accurate then you are and I am! But if you want a utility gun, then there is one answer! The SW 625 with a four inch barrel! No one can beat that gun for accuracy and flexibilty! Accurate? OMG you can not find a more accurate 45ACP platform! |

I'm an HK guy. Love the quality and durability. Check out my pics in: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=29&t=11605 At least for the fullsize USP .45, 12-round magazines can be found for as little as $28/magazines if you look and don't mind buying previously LE-owned magazines that might need a little cleaning. |
Found this for you on gunbroker: Kimber TLE used $750 New $761 |

Get both! No seriously, I had the same problem, so I bought a Sig220, then 2 Colt commanders, one is a lightweight commander, the other is a Combat commander in SS. I love shooting them all for different reasons, so I would also say to go out and shoot all than you can, then choose one. Plus shopping for a new .45ACP is always fun! |
| Thanks for all the suggestions. It's really tough to pick just one. Unfortunately finances won't allow me to get both (believe me, I would). The ones I'm leaning toward are still the Sig 220 either stainless or blued with a rail and the Springfield parkerized 1911. Glocks are good guns despite what some say but the grip angle and grooves are all wrong for me. The USP is also another fine piece but it's a bit pricey and it just didn't feel right either. Haven't found a place that rents Sigs yet but I'll keep looking. Keep 'em coming, I'm still not sold on anything. Thanks, MJD. |
