New to the world of handguns, have always been a rifleman since about 10 years ago. However, recently I've been thinking about getting a handgun. Looked around and decided that I'm going to go w/ a USP .45 Auto. I have a few questions, can you guys please help? 1. What do you think of this gun? Reliability? Performance? 2. Where to buy? Price? All I can think of right now, TIA. |

I have a USP45F and like it a lot. But you really need to be sure the gun fits your hands, keeping the following in mind: 1) Most people dislike the DA pull on the USP, but cocked/locked is the oft-recommended option if you dislike the DA pull. 2) If you go cocked/locked, the generally recommended grip has your thumb riding on the safety lever like a 1911 (to make sure it doesn't get popped up by your thumb under recoil, and because moving your thumb OFF the lever after disabling the safety takes time). If you intend to shoot this way, make sure your hand is big enough (thumb long enough) to do it! I took a friend shooting and he just couldn't shoot that way. The USP safety lever is in an odd place for a thumbs-forward grip if you aren't going to ride the lever, and if you go cocked/locked you don't want to switch to a thumbs-down grip 3) If you ride the safety lever of a Variant 1 gun there is the possibility of partially decocking the pistol during recoil, and leaving the pistol unable to fire. You can switch to Variant 9, but that's designed to be single-action only. You have the option of putting a LEM trigger in it, which removes the safety lever from the equation. I've had a LEM trigger in my USP45F and it was nice, if you like light DA triggers. Personally I have settled on V9 Match triggers in my USP45F and USP9F due to the safety lever issues, and a LEM trigger in my USP9C because my large hands just don't fit the smaller gun well if there's a safety/decocker lever. With all that in mind I can recommend the USP45F. It shoots as well as my Kimber TLE/RL2! |

I have a USP Tactical and find it to be a top-notch gun. It's totally dependable and so accurate it really shocks you! No kididng, these are terrific guns. Mine ran $850 a couple years ago...I have only one H&K and have not shopped for another, I can't offer much regarding your price question. Mags are about $45...not cheap. Bob |
For less than a testicle, you can MOVE! Don't you hear the lure of Free(r) New Hampshire calling you? Flee my brother! I left 11 years of Maryland in my dust, now I enjoy CCW nearly every day. |
| hey Vandel..+1 I traided my usp45 for a glock21 ,take the price of mags ,holsters and everyting else and double it for the usp. mine never failed once, but sometimes with my thumbs on the safety the kick would bump the satey about .25 into de-cock witch meens the gun will not fire until you realese your grip a little. Its a trainning issue but in ten years with this gun I could not correct it, I loved my usp but it was made for someone else |

You will be best served by seeking out one to shoot a box of ammo out of! This will verify that your comfortable with the gun! I have both the compact and fullsize. They both are shooters. I have to say that I like the compact a bit better. But, I have taken three classes with the full size! I have never had a failure! Well, except when the instructor loaded my magazines! Never let that happen! I have shoot close to 10K of 230gr ball through my fullsize! It is a shooter! When I leave the caffiene alone it is even better! If you buy one you will not regret it! Bachman Gun & Pawn in Dallas has good prices. Locally they run over 700. There is a new SS Fullsize locally for 695. |
