I picked up one of these over the weekend.  It was on my "If I Run Across One Cheap Enough" list, and now I can check it off.  Gave $675 for it.

I put about 200 rounds through it, and man, is this thing a fun tackdriving SOB to shoot!   Cutting the center out of a 1" circle at 15 yards is almost too easy with it.   It ran fine with Federal bulk pack, and had a couple of stovepipes with that weak-ass PMC stuff... fortunately I shot the last of it up today.

Nice pistol.  By the way, you didn't buy it, you stole it!

Nice price. It's the looooong barreled one too, sweet. Great guns. My dad used to have one that I wished I could've gotten my hands on. It was the 5incher though. Got me hooked on S&W .22s. I ended up with a 2206, not as cool, but it's real accuate. Doesn't have the old school class of a 41 though. Enjoy it

NICE!!!  Beautiful pistol.  I'm also in the camp of ,"If I find one cheap enough, I'd love to have one".  Haven't found it yet.

Congrats on a beautiful pistol.

They are very nice pistols. I picked one up about 10 years ago, and traded a CZ-75 straight across for it. At the time I squirmed a bit, not sure it was a good deal. Recent price checks on the CZ shows I did the right thing.

model 41's were designed as precision instruments for bullseye shooting- you are going to get much better function and accuracy out of standard velocity target ammo not bulk pack or high vel garbage. A cadilac gun deserves cadilac ammo even if you got the gun at the chevy price!

also shoot a real bullseye course with slow fire targets at 50 yards and it will reveal the ability of the gun- if the shooter is up tot he task!

The shooter is definitely not up to it.      I know it will do better with target ammo, but the main point of having .22s (as far as I'm concerned) is that it's cheap, and buying expensive target ammo is at odds with that philosophy.

Funny –– I bought this with proceeds from selling my CZ SP-01.

I have been looking for one of these for a good while now.  You got a great deal on yours.   Congrats on the purchase, I know you will enjoy it!!

You stole it, Mr. Mays.  I'm fairly envious.  I have a similar list, and that's certainly on it.  I doubt I will ever encounter a similar deal.

Beautiful gun!

I prefer & own the 5-1/2" bbl version as these balance better for me. But both guns shoot marvelously, no question. One thing I do to get nice groups from moderate ammo is to shoot it off of a sandbag rest of some sort. 20 yard groups get REAL small when a proper rest is used.

I have a red dot on mine but I'm thinking of going back to iron sights. The dot sight throws off the balance just enough to detract from its OEM designed perfection, IMO. But it does help my 53 year old eyes.

Thanks!  I did shoot from a rested position and the groups shrank dramatically.  One hole, 1/2" or so at 15 yards.

CCI standard velocity.. cheap.. good.. accurate.  Works well in my 41.

Thinking of putting a Burris fast fire I have sitting around drawing dust on it.  My groups keep getting bigger but I'm sure my aging eyesight has nothing to do with it.

cci standard velocity is what I use- just under 30 bucks a brick and  MUCH better than any of the bulk pack/high vel stuff. I have heard some people say (not sure I agree with it) that these guns are built around standard vel and high vel will cause undue wear .

the gun is set up to run CCI SV as a standard from the factory.

FYI you may want to read the manual/check with S&W as far as shooting the high velocity ammo in it.  IIRC it is NOT RECOMMENDED.

A S&W Model 41's is my favorite .22 pistol of all time. When I used to shoot at the S&W shooting sports center, this was my go-to .22. It's accurate as hell and a blast to shoot. I'm very envious of the price you paid as well .

I'm pretty sure there is no issue with shooting HV ammo out of your SW41, I've been using HV ammo in mine and have had no issues. Besides maybe getting a heavier recoil spring, I can't imagine anything on the gun being damaged.

There isn't.
Call Smith and Wesson and ask them.
I have shot thousands and thousands of high velocity through my Model 41 with two barrel assemblies and zero problems.

You can get Fed 711a and b target ammo that is cheap and better than the bulk box .22's
