Recently purchased a Colt 1917 that had the barrel shortened.  I took it out to shoot today and the gun was continuously shooting way high.  Thoughts?

Sounds like you need a higher front sight.

not unusual in older guns and the chop jobs are very typical to exhibit this. higher front sight or use a lighter bullet- may help a little but if it is way high might just need a higher front sight(gunsmithing required) or hold off.

Guys, thanks for the feedback.  I was afraid these chop jobs had that problem since it appears to have the original sight.  This will give me an excuse to modify with better sights since the gun has already lost all collector value.

My 1917 colt is right on. Who ever did my sights knew what they were doing.

I'm almost positive they are Pachmayer but I'm curious what model number.  I was told the Model 1917 is difficult to locate grips and I'm very curious if they interchange with another model.  The grip guy told me he thought Ajax made grips but they are now out of business.  Any other options without me having to make custom?

The grips are Pachmayers. I got them from Numrich's .The listing said (Grips, Presentation Pachmayr, Square Butt) Current status at Numrichs is sold out. The make a world of difference to me when shooting.  The price on the web site has not changed. Still $13.75.
