Are there any out there? I see plenty of tactical 1911s.

Pics please.

What makes a pistol tactical?  I'm not going to go all comic-book store nerd and say that "tactical" is about tactics and all that other crap, even though it's true .  But I'm honestly curious - what makes one pistol "tactical" and the other not?

This is the closest I have to tactical-looking.  I think a BHP with a light on it could be considered "tactical".  There are some rails available that fit the HP, but I've searched all over and been unable to find any pics of one with a light on it.

Standardized for use in tactical operations by some unit of some military?   I don't know... but these are cool photos:

There is an actual model of BHP called the 'Practical', which, if you were in a shootout, could be 'tactical'; blue over hard chrome, Pachmary grips. I have one, and it's quite nice-

What kind of thumb safety and slide stop are those?

It's a FEG, and those are the factory parts.

Generally if one says "tactical handgun" one things of a handgun that is set up as an "offensive weapons system".  This is of course not really a handgun role (this is why we have battle rifles), but in some special situations involving very close quarter combat or room clearing a handgun may be a good choice.

To me, a tactical pistol has to have a rail mounted light and a threaded barrel.

Ah, thanks.  Very different looking parts as compared to my FEG.

My Belgium/Portugal BHP is at Chestnut Mountain Sports right now to be worked over by Karl Sokol.  He's built several S&W revolvers for me for carry and competition.

It's going to get his full treatment, plus the addition of a beavertail.  I have huge hands and I always get hammer bit on a BHP or 1911 without a beavertail.  I'll post pics when I get it back.

There isn't much you're going to need on a BHP that they don't provide for at Heirloom Precision.  Those in-house sights and safety, the cleaned up trigger, a flawless finish.  THe Browning is an excellent argument that you don't need a ton of bells and whistles to achieve a "tactical" firearm.

Thank goodness I did this when I could because I could never afford it again.

I don't know if this pistol qualifies as "tactical", but it is my "old reliable". It was made in 1975 in Belgium.   I bought it nearly new from my cousin.  In the late 70's I took it on an 8 month trip to South America (Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, etc).  I carried it in the Amazon  basin area, on the monteplano, Macchu Pichu and many other pre-Columbian sites.  It was quite beat when I came back, but it kept me alive on several occaisions.  A few years later I sent it to Metaloy, and they did a beautiful job on it, inside and out.  It just has standard parts in it, with Navadrex grips.  It has never failed to function, and never had a broken part.  It has been there to help me sleep easier for a long time, and will continue to do so.

In fact, I have a spare just like it from 1974 that has never been fired, and 2 new BHP's with military tangent sights on them, but this one has not quit yet.

(sorry for the poor picture quality)
