Purchased one from another deputy that had a little work done to it.  Very pleasant to shoot, accurate, and the recoil is not bad.  No regrets yet on the purchase.

This is a 40 BHP chromed & trigger job by Virgil Tripp at Tripp Research with the Sprinco (Corbon model) Recoil System, and was also purchased NIB from a deputy.

The recoil reduction system is startlingly effective in this .40 S&W Browning High Power, reducing muzzle flip by at least 50% using a regular two hand hold and Ranger RA40TA 165gr ammo.  The first time I tried it I actually had to check the magazine to make sure I had actually loaded Ranger ammo!

This pistol has actually displaced my 45 Colt as my primary combat pistol, and sees concealed carry use in place of my HK P7M8 in colder weather.

I had two in 40.

Sold one.  Other one I put a .357sig barrel in.

If you're a fan on the 40S&W cartridge, it's an EXCELLENT pistol.  I just don't happen to care for 40.

Very nice pistols.  I have three of them.

Recoil is no problem whatsoever for me, but then I have a KelTec P40 that I carry every day.  Even that is not too bad.

I love mine but I can never seem to locate spare factory mags for it.It's,otherwise, an excellent gun!

I have one.  I got it in the mid-90s when I was shooting a bunch of USPSA and wanted something that 'shot Major'.  I have no complaints other than the caliber, I just got to where I didn't see the point in paying the premium to shoot 40.

I tried to trade it for something in 9mm, but none of the offers I got were worth while, people just don't want .40 High Powers.  Just as well, I decided to keep it since it rounded out my High Power collection (I have 4).  It's a beautiful shooting pistol, I can't understand why they aren't more popular.

Stick with the factory Magazines if at all possible.  That's what swayed me from ditching mine, I have 8 factory Mags.

Got a High Power Practical that I like a lot. Very accurate, I just wish I could find more of the Pachmayr magazines at a decent price.

Been thinking of getting a second one, but that'll be a bit later...

its a hipower, awesome firearm no matter what caliber.  if you like the 40 you wont go wrong.  it of course has more recoil than a 9 hp, but that can be tamed as stated in previous posts.  wont go wrong with it.  if you can find one they are climbing in price even though they are not that popular as the 9 hp.  i have one and a 9 both in matte black finish.  NOTE:  any 40 hp i have put my hands on with a FACTORY TRIGGER is very hard and rough.  trigger jobs are a must on the 40 hp, unlike the 9 hp that most can live with without any work.  i havent sent mine off for work yet but the hard trigger takes the "natural" point and shoot of the hp out of the equation.  so definitely plan on getting a trigger job done by a professional gunsmith if it is going to be a shooter and not a safe queen.  good luck on purchase.  just recently looked on gunsamerica and they are 600-900 pending if it is a practical or not.  he he, i have way less than that in mine.

I have one.  My only complaint is the cost of .40 compared to 9mm.
