I've just acquired a new in the box Browning BDM from my Father. I know this pistol is no longer produced and have found all kinds of technical data and specs on it. What I want to know is if anyone knows of after market grips for this pistol. Any response and information will be appreciated. Thanks.

I worked in a gunshop when the BDM was brought out. To my knowledge there isn't an aftermarket grip for it. I don't think it was a big enough seller to bring a grip out for it.

I liked the feel of the BDM for a hi-cap 9mm since I have small hands. I just didn't like the saftey/decocker/slide stop all in one lever arrangement. It was backwards. It would have been a better seller if it was a more traditional DA/SA and got rid of the key and switch system to convert it from a DA/SA to a "revolver mode" DAO. they needed to get rid of the one lever does all thing and do it like every body else with a decocker/safety lever and a slide stop lever. We told our customers to ignore the lever as a slide stop since it would decock itself when you let the slide forward durring a magazine change. Use the little lever in front of it for the slide stop. If I remember correctly the small lever was to lock the slide back to take it apart.

If you only owned one pistol and it was the BDM and you knew how it worked it would be a great pistol. I already owned a Hi-Power when the BDM came out, but if I didn't it would have been a close call at the time between the two just on feel alone.

I might be wrong about the grips though. You never know what some company out there might have made for it.

I think CDNN has factory hi-cap mags for it if you need some spares.

Enjoy,

I actually just sold mine, and now I am kicking myself for it. It was a great gun and never gave me even one problem. I have never seen any after market grips for it. I searched high and low for them, but no joy.

You might try the stick on sand-paper type grip stuff. Might work. Other than that enjoy it and shoot the hell out of it.

I never have seen any aftermarket grips available for them.  I found the grips to be a little too thin for my liking so I just purchased one of those Hogue slip over grips (the ones they make for Glocks) which helped.

The BDM is an interesting gun.  Made my FN USA, IMHO, I have not seen too many modern pistols that are as well built.  I really wish Browning would have done a few things different with it which IMHO would have made this gun a phenomenal pistol.  Sadly, its quirks and the crime bill spelled its doom.

Still, you got a good pistol there that will serve you well and an interesting piece of the High Power legacy.

Now if I could only get me one of them High Power DAs

Thanks for the heads up!

Alas, I am interned here in the People's Republic of Kalifornia and the HP DA is not on the "Commissar's Approved List."  Thus, unless I see one for sale as a private party transfer here withing the Republic, I will have to keep on dreaming
