just got this one today <found out after the sale i damn near stole it> FN made in belgium sometime around 20 years ago. Anyone know where i can check a manufacture date by serial number? 245pyxxxxx serial range. the action on this thing is as tight as any high end 1911 i have seen. i have to say i am VERY impressed with the quality of workmanship FN does on these things. |

Considering the blued finish, walnut grips, the lack of an ambi safety, the low profile original style sights, it was born WELL before they ever made a Mk-Anything. |

thanks for the info guys. and from what i can tell it is a pre mk . yes this gun will stay pristine as it is. As posted above hammer bite on these is an issue to me as well. I will grab some gloves and run a few mags through it for posterity but it won't be a main shooter for me. for 400.00 i counld'nt turn this down. |

well i shot it today... DAMN that old girl shoots well. i am WELL pleased with this gun and now understand all the hulabaloo over the hipower in general. DAMN fine shooting pistol. I will say this gun is MUCH smoother than new mkIII's i have shot in the past. Not sure what the difference is it's there and it's significant. mike |

Congrats on your purchase! They shoot great, don't they!!! And your pistol is a MKII. Several characteristics such as the front crown cover and though I don't see it there may be a hole underneath the crown lower part of the bushing which was for water drainage (the earlier MKII's have that) . . . the MKIII didn't come out till 89'/'90 if memory serves me. OK, so I figured it was a MkII until Lumpy came out saying it's not a MkII. And since he has more posts than I do (postwhore???), I figured he knew more than me. Doh. Anyways, on my MkIII, I felt the gritty trigger improve a lot with continued range time.  But that crisp trigger break...that's something to kill for.

400...no be a fool to turn it down, you got a great deal, on a nice looking HP.. I just picked up a 1976 mfg for 700 and felt I got an OK deal, not great but ok traded a 10yr old glock and 300 for it. the made in belguim only HP is gone.,.all the assembled elswhere is all thats on the market today for the same money and from what I have seen not the same quality. comparing even the 1990 HP I have to a few 2000 and up models, the quality isnt the same.. Congrats beerslayer..you done good. |
 It's going to be damned hard to say with any justification that the newer iterations of Hi Powers -- that can handle the pressures of the .40 S&W and +P 9mm -- aren't the same quality as the guns of the past. Christ, this is one of the reasons I hate the fucking internet some days.

damn dude you either need some happy pills or a bit of the PIE. actually having looked over this gun, and having looked at some NIB ones at my local shop i can say the craftmanship and attention to detail is a bit higher on mine. May not be stronger or "better" but it pretty obvious from the lack of machining and the finish more care was taken during the manufacture. |
