I have looked on gunbroker, gunsamerica and auction arms for information related to this pistol. So far this http://www.genitron.com/handgundb/DB-Handgun-Detail.asp?ID=678 Is the only thing I've been able to find that has complete information. I am trying to put a value on the gun because a guy is wanting to trade it for an almost new AR15 upper. Guy says its worth $750 but its not a even current production FN pistol, I am leary because its compact but weighs in around 32oz . It weighs the same as my G23 does in 40cal

| Not worth $750 and it does weigh in like a log. It was something that was made for a couple of years that didn't gain much in sales and the product line was dropped. Worth more in the five hundred dollar range at best. When I was playing with one at a gun show the first thing I thought when I picked it up off the table was damn this thing is heavy. |

Yeah, they are worth $500 - 550.
I think cabela's were selling the full size and the compact model for around $530. I own the full size and it is very nice and shoots well. Trigger pull in double action is quite heavy. I handled a compact model and it was very nice as well. Both had good fit, but the finish was lacking. The gun is also a turn off as it has nothing in common with the hi-power, spare parts are non existent, and the only reason I see to own one is if you collect FN pistols. Magazines are uncommon (especially for the compact) but the full size can use BDM mags they are also uncommon as the BDM never gained much popularity either. Probably good that you passed. |

Don't listen to too much about the HP-DA here. Some of the stuff I'm reading here is accurate, some is not, and yet more is out of context. First...It's not that heavy, especially considering it's not plastic. The gun is very comfortable to carry concealed in that not only is the weight moderate but, most importantly it's one of thinnest non-pocket pistols you'll find. It's under an inch wide. The trigger pull for the DAO isn't that good IMO but, others like it...the SA/DA trigger feels really good to me though. While not night sights, the sights are very good...they are three big white dots that are easy to see. It holds 10 + 1 rounds of 9mm as opposed to .380 and/or 7+1 like other pistols of similar size. Because it's not a pure HP don't be fooled...it's very reliable and accuracy is very good for CCW situations. You can use the hi cap mags from the full sized HP-DA and, the BDM. The SA/DA has a decocking lever. The barrel also has a safety window. The finish is very wear resistant too. The take-down is very straight forward much like the HP that spawned it, with the only possible issue being the takedown pin is a bit difficult to get out of the frame. For CCW purposes its combination of size, reliability, price, quality, finish, capacity, caliber, looks, accuracy and trigger are very hard to beat! The main problem I have is that FN doesn't support the model any more and their customer service seems to be very unknowledgable and unmotivated. Mags aren't easy to find but, not impossible last I checked. I have a couple of these pistols and I love them. They don't fail on any of the ammo I feed them. They are totally reliable and they don't feel uncomfortable carring even at the end of the day.
These *are* about $700 guns if you don't consider the lack of company support. In the $500.00 range they are a bit of a deal. The guns were originally intended for the Euro police market IIRC. After that they were marketed in general but, plastic and/or .40 cal had become all the rage, and as usual FN/Browning marketing sucks in general. |

It weighs the same as my G23 does in 40calI don't know if it's the same guy I'm thinking of but, if it is then you did good not to purchase from him. Earlier this year a guy was wanting $550.00 or trade for his FN DAO HP-DA 9mm which only came with two LOW-CAP mags and case. The gun was used on top of that. Then he gave me some crap when I pointed this out. It was like he thought he had some sort of rare collector's piece. Get real. If the gun was new and the mags were hi-cap...and it was SA/DA instead, I probably would have bitten. |
