I found a gently used Hi-power MKIII for sale and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this model of Browning's classic.

I've never had a Hi-Power before but after handling t I had trouble putting it down again. Any one have 2 cents to offer on the MKIII version?

I like MKIII's. Granted the parts are finally assembled in Portugal and marked thus. However, the cast MKIII frames are acknowledged to be tougher than the older forged frames so, less worry about cracking.  The bluing, fit/finish, aesthetics, etc. are cool on the older guns but, I'll take a MKIII as a shooter any day. IMHO the later extended ambi browning safety makes a night and day improvement.

One of the best SA 9mm guns ever made.

I love them.  Actually sold some earlier BHP's to replace with MKIII's as the frames are stronger, they feed hollow points, have a larger thumb safety standard and better sights.

Now, question is, how much do they want for it?

A Browning Hi-Power MKIII is a superb single action pistol. It will perform 100% flawlessly using quality ammunition and magazines. You may want to investigate about magazine safety removal for better trigger pull and positive ejection of magazines. It's a great pistol that seem to multipy with most owners.

I removed the mag safety.  Night and day on the trigger pull.  I plan on buying a second MKIII and dong some Novak work this year.

I have a Mk III. The part I hate the most is the grip panels: too slippery. I have to readjust my grip every couple of shots. I replace it w/ a pair of Navidrex thin synthetic grip (looks just like the  Spiegel ones but cheaper) that I got from Brownell. I also added some skate board tapes on the front and back strap. Replaced the safety w/ a C&S one. The enamel finish is more resistant to wear than the blue version. No gun related malfunction after couple of thousand rounds. Worked on the trigger myself and got it down to about 5.5 lbs. Very accurate. Generally speaking the worst part of the BHP is the trigger. Most people cannot fix it themselves and have to find a smith who specializes on the High Power. I do not recommend Bill Springfield.

BTW do not use Mecgar 15 rd magazine, they do not feed the last round. Their 13 rd is much better. But the Browning OEM factory magazine (one w/ the mouse trap spring) is the best. Do not even try the CDNN Argentine 17 rd magazines, POS

I've got three HPs and 7-8 15 rd MecGar mags and have never had a problem.

I have a mk III and love it, but it has been a pain finding grips that don't need to be fitted.  There are alot of variations in Hi Power frames and that can make finding grips a little tricky.
