Since my original thread went to the archives I figured I'd put it up again with the updates on the build process
Well it's not completely done yet but almost there. Started out with winning a Charles Daly frame and slide on gunbroker for $60. Now the auction showed an in the white combo with surface rust and marks but what I received was a fully finished and blued set in perfect condition. This is my first Hi-Power and I'm already hooked. It fits my hand so well and the weight really isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Can't wait to shoot it!
Here's what gone into it so far:
Bar-Sto barrel
All new Browning internals in both the slide and frame
Charles Daly extended safety (probably going to replace with a C&S wide safety)
Garthwaite trigger
C&S sear
C&S hammer
Wolff springs
VZ HP 320 grips
Here's what needs to be done:
XS sights (ordered already, I want to try this setup out)
Remove "Charles Daly" billboard on the side of the slide
Stipple front and back strap
Carry bevel entire pistol
Refinish
UPDATES:
1/3/2010 Removed the Charles Daly billboard today. Took almost an hour while watching TV.
9/16/2011 Installed the XS sights and stippled both the front and back strap. Not sure if I like the XS setup and might change it out to a 10-8 or Heinie. Still need to touch up the stippling since I've got some high points showing up. Update took forever but that's what happens when you have too many projects and not enough free time. Should be able to finish up the stippling tomorrow as well as the beveling.

Nice job so far, good work on the stipple. If you ditch the CD safety lmk. Oh it looks way better without the billboard!
