Hey all,
I have 4 BHP's or clones. An original Belgian Browning from the late 60's early 70's, a KBI FEG clone, an FM Detective, and I just picked up a Charles Daly BHP last week. I'm noticing differences in the frames from gun to gun. A set of wood grips I bought will ONLY fit the original browning without slop and movement. It seems the backstraps of the other three come out further, only like 1/16" or 1/8", but enough that it doesn't match up. Also the raised portion around the mag well, which keeps the grip in line (since there is only 1 screw) is farther forward on the 3 copies allowing the grip to be rotated around the screw until it comes in contact with the raised portion at the top or bottom. I'm trying to figure out a way to fill in the underside of the grip to prevent the movement, but thought I would check here and see if there are two different sets of aftermarket grips available, one for actual brownings and one for "the rest". |

To my knowledge no one makes grips for anything but the genuine FN Hi Power. The clones did their best to copy the dimensions of the original and clone owners have to hope theirs will fit. There is even some variation in fit among FN HP's. This is not an unusual problem.......some have used acraglas or other bedding compound to tighten the fit. Just be careful when you tighten those grip screws.........too much and you'll split the grip. (I know |
