Is the Browning High Power in 9mm the same frame and slide as the .40S&W?

I am asking because my cousin makes custom leather holsters, my dad has a .40 HP, and my cousin has a 9mm HP, can the 9mm be used as a form for the .40????

Thanks!!!

No.

The slides on the 40 are thicker.  Just a bit but they are.

Frames are the same.

You might be able to do it with a leather holster (have it sized for a 40) but kydex wouldn't be interchangeable.

The .40 has slightly more metal in the sides of the slide. It adds some mass and some strength to the .40 slide to address the additional stress, but not enough to make a difference in a leather holster - at least if you size it to the 9mm and then break it in with the .40.

Any chance you know the difference in thickness?

I don't have one handy for comparison but if I recall the difference is around an 1/8" total - about 1/16" per side.  You'll note the width of the added metal in the step  machined in front of the slide stop to allow clearance for the wider slide on the .40.

OK. So a 1/16" per side really shouldn't make a difference with leather then, It should be a bit more snug to begin, but still "wear in" after a period of time to be a very nice fitting hoster, correct?

Yes. FWIW I have ordered two custom leather hp holsters in the past and no one ever asked about caliber.  They start a bit small and loosen to your gun anyway.

Thank you, won't worry anymore about it then.

My .40 S&W P35 does not fir my 9MM Milt Sparks Versa Max 2.  I carry it in a 40 S&W Executive Companion.  Can you send him your slide, so he can get it the right size?
