I have an Inglis Hi Power, serial number IT78XX.

Any way to determine the date of manufacture?

Or, can anyone tell me the date of manufacture?

You typed "I" as the first character in your serial # it should be a "1" (as in "1T78xxx).

Most likely yours was built sometime in mid to late 1944.

According to "The Browning Hi Power Automatic Pistol" by R. Blake Stevens: Total Inglis production of Hi Powers was 151,816 of all types and models. Production lasted from February 1944 until September 1945. Roughly 50,000 were the No. 1 or tangent sight model.

BTW....the "T" in your serial number indicates it was produced for issue to Canadian forces. Most of the tangent sight versions will have "CH" in the serial number indicating the Chinese contract. (few actually made it to China).
