So I bought a new Gen II Kel Tec P3AT in .380.

I bought a box of Winchester white box value pack to test her out. Although the gun seemed acceptablly accurate, it jammed quite a bit.

First mag had several failures to feed, etc. Also the slide does not lock back when empty but I'm not sure if it's supposed to. I don't think it is since there is no slide release.

After a couple mags it stopped with the FTF while shooting, but EVERY time after inserting a fresh mag and racking the slide, it would have a FTF and I would have to push the slide forward. Then it would shoot the rest of the mag without problems.

What should I do to correct this problem?? Should I look for a bullet with a more rounded point (any suggestions)??

Also it HURTS to shoot without gloves LOL.

Go the site below and join the forum.  You will find EVERYTHING you want to know about the P3AT.

I can tell you this now though.  You have to hold that gun tight because you are the recoil buffer.  The gun is so light that it needs to be gripped with authority for reliable operation.

Also, Winchester White Box is a heavy bullet and the nose is not the best shape for the P3AT.  If you are going to have any trouble, it usually will be with that load.  Mine takes it just fine but my gun is broken in, another thing you have to do before loosing faith.  About 100 - 200 rounds.

There is this little thing called "fluff and buff" that you can read about on the site also.  Do the fluff and buff.

Kel Tec service is beyond belief it is that good.

i had to F&B mine and after about 200 rds, i haven't had any problems. if you're worried, just send it back to KT and they will fix it.

I have a second gen and have never had one problem. First, don't limp wrist it. Small semi-autos are more prone to malfunction from it. Second, try a pinky extension. Kel-Tec has their own but I use one made for the Bersa 380. Third, you can try a slight polish of the feedramp. Try these and let us know.

The biggest problem was jamming when I rack the slide.....

If my gun jams....I hope I've got some toast!!!

Seriously, do the 'fluff and buff' on the feed ramp. Check out the KTOG site MouseGun mentioned. There are a lot of good people there. I have a P11, and I had several FTEs and FTFs the first 150 rounds. Did the F&B, used a little good quality grease on the slide rails, and the next outing with it was absolutely flawless. Good luck!

you have to rack the slide with authority or it can get jammed out of battery (needs some help to bring it all the way home).  the slide wont lock back when the magi s empty.

you have to hang onto the gun, mine has fed winchester, remington (fmj and sabers), federal, and monarch jhp with no problems.  I never did a fluff and buff.

If you ride the slide forward it will jam every time, its designed to be pulled back all the way, then let go of. that means take your hand off... f&b is a must if the gun is not smooth inside. Mine was not. but it works 100% now
