Picked up a second gen pmr 30 in December. Nothing but problems. I have only used the recommended ammo, cci maxi mags. First issue was light primer strikes, every 4th or 5th round wouldn't fire. Small indentation on rim but no fire. Sent back, keltec replaced a couple things. Tested and sent back to me.

Take it out this weekend and about 10 rounds in it blows the back off a spent case and leaves it stuck in the chamber. Dig that one out and inspect everything. No obvious signs of a problem. 5 rounds later same issue, blows back of case out and leaves it in the chamber.

I'm pretty disappointed with this gun. Issues I researched before purchasing were all feed related. I've had no feed issues so far.

It will be heading back to keltec this week. Hoping to get a resolution soon.

Too bad about yours.  I bought one about this time last year, and if I load the mag up properly, it works fine.

Probably just hit and miss with quality control.  From what I've read they're pretty good about customer service.

It's worth it to get it fixed, as they're really fun guns when they work.  Accurate, good sights, and good trigger.

If it’s blowing the back of the case out, sounds like it’s unlocking before the chamber pressure drops to ‘blowback’levels.

The CCI 40 grain fmj is my preferred ammo in my PMR 30. Fiocchi & Speer gold dots are reliable too.

That just sounds like a defective firearm. KT customer service is good, hope they fix it.

I would have a few other brands of ammo on hand next time out, just in the off chance that’s a bad batch. Armscor is dirty and not very accurate out of my PMR 30 but is reliable.

PMRs HAVE to be cleaned often, like a couple hundred rounds, or they don’t run. I don’t think that’s the OP’s issue here, just FYI.
I also have the CMR 30 carbine which is just blowback, not the hybrid system of the PMR 30, and it’s had no issues and after a few initial cleanings I’ve not done much other than run a patch thru the bore and a drop of CLP on the extractor.

I just added a See All sight to my PMR 30, someone on another forum swears his PMR runs better with a mounted optic, so maybe more weight on the slide is affecting cycling?

Bought mine in mid July and my experience mirrors this.

KT customer service was top tier for me.

First trip out my CMR 30 carbine had a failure that stopped the gun. Emailed KT, described the problem, and got a pre-paid return label all within a few days. Less than three weeks later it’s back and been running fine since.

Had one and sold it.

If I took 20 mins to make sure I had every detail correct when loading the mags, it would work.

I am a patient man, but that was a total PITA.

American Speedloaders makes a 'nest' loader for PMR/CMR mags. I'd bought their 'deluxe' loader when I first got my PMR 30 years ago and while it's fine, the nest loader is REALLY simple to use.

It sits on a table and you slide a round thru the front and insert your mag upside down into the nest loader. You can feel it when it seats and load 'em about as fast as you can push rounds thru it.

Just loading these mags up properly by hand is a skill but using the nest loader is about as easy as using a desk stapler.

If the PMR mags are a deal breaker, check out the RIA XT-22mag. Feels like a 1911, shoots .22wmr from a 14 round magazine.  So far mine doesn't seem finicky with loading.
The fixed barrel is more accurate than my PMR.

XTM-22 Magnum mags are great.

(Read on if you ever consider getting one)

Only thing re: the XTM 22 Magnum is to be careful of is the Return Plunger Pin and Retturn Plunger Pin Spring (teeny spring and plug that sit in a teeny hole in the outer sleeve (the barrel sits in the sleeve).

They’re not mentioned in the manual, and I was lucky that I saw them when they fell out.  If I didn’t, they’d be gone forever, and I never would have known I needed them.

Also the screw plug that allows the guide rod and springs to be easily reassembled.  I had to find a YT video on assembling the regular .22 version.  The manual says it comes out of the lug cavity automatically with the rest of the assembly,  That one isn’t tough to figure out, though.

It’s almost like there were some design changes prior to release, but the manual wasn’t updated.

I had trouble with mine just like the OP, then tried Hornady Critical Defense, .22 Magnum, FTX, 45 Grain, ammo, and now my gun works 100% of the time. Couldn't believe the difference in reliability with this ammo change. I was on the verge of shitcanning the gun. Try that ammo and report back.

I finally bought a PMR30.  It follows my PF9 and Sub2000.    I was expecting the worst and had no problems at all.  I ran 120rds testing for failure.  It ran everything I had on hand.

CCI Maxi-Mag 30Gr JHP
Fiocchi 40gr TMJ
