What a nasty job this turned out to be ! I read that the pin that holds the extractor in place needs to be punched out from the top of the slide and it comes out the bottom hole. The hole is tapered and only allows removal in one direction. This is a WARNING ........... it all depends on model and year, I guess - because the information I got was wrong for my gun. I broke 3 punch sets trying to get the pin to drive out the bottom of the slide -- it would not budge !!!! Finally I decided to try and drive it out in the other direction ....so I flipped the slide over on its top and drove the pin from the bottom. It took a lot of pounding, but the pin came out the top of the slide. Don't pound the pin all the way out of the slide .....it will save you a lot of headaches later on......... just enough to free the extractor. To re-assemble .......... use a small pin on the bottom side to keep the extractor in place as to drive the top pin back into place. The pin you placed in the bottom will be driven out as the pin from the top comes into contact with it. A job that should have taken 15 minutes, kicked my butt and took almost an hour. I normally would have turned the slide over and tried from the other direction, but I heard it was really tough to get the pin to move for the first time -- so I spent more time trying to follow the bad information that I had then I normally would. While you have the extractor out of the pistol.......take that opportunity to make sure the extractor channel is free of any burrs and is smooth. I used some 600 grit sandpaper to smooth the insides of the channel before replacing the spring with an extra power WOLFF spring. You want the extractor to be able to pivot easily inside that channel. My channel was packed with a thick gritty paste from oil and carbon build up. So as a cleaning detail for the CZ pistol .............. I would recommend drenching the extractor [in place ] in Hoppes#9 every month or so and using a can of compressed air to blow the debris out of that channel to maintain a clean surface for the extractor to work from.
