Just finished an 82 that I worked on for about a month. Completely stripped it down to the white and polished the frame. Finished it with Duracoat Clear Satin and some grips that I made for it. It is a really neat piece.
The grips aren't perfect, but it was my first attempt. Made a second pair of grips for my friend. Before After After1 2nd Grip Attempt |

It is a really neat piece... Again, I really like how that came out. Can you give more details about how you stripped and polished it? Was it bead blasted, or is that just the look of the finish? |

First started the stripping process by complete disassembly (not as hard as I think people try to make it). I then let all of the parts sit overnight in paint stripper. The crappy finish that CZ had on mine came off without a hitch. Then I took a 3M sanding block (320 grit) to remove any residual finish then went to 00 steel wool and after 0000 steel wool. After that, I polished all parts but the internals with a dremel using the red rouge and felt wheels. Before finishing with Duracoat, you need to clean all parts with either brake cleaner or acetone. You do not want to touch the parts with our bare hands afterwards so you don't place any oils on the surfaces. I put a few coats of Clear Satin on it and it was finished. I did not bead blast it because it was in pretty good shape already and I liked the look. When you are polishing don't forget to polish the feed ramp. It's a very easy process and reduces on FTF issues.
Also, be careful when you are duracoating the trigger as to not mess with the sear surfaces too much. |
