I recently purchased a batch of surplus 82's in 9x18 Makarov from a reputable online source. Upon inspection, each pistol was found to have come with one magazine that accepts 9x18 just fine; the other mag will not load 9x18, and appears to have a considerable difference in the feed-lips.
The good mags have very straight lips with a very subtle bend, while the mags I am having issues with have a pronounced narrowing and bend in the feed lips. The followers also appear to ride at different heights unloaded, possibly even shaped different. I'm thinking that I received a mixed batch of magazines, and that the ones I am having issues with are actually .32 Auto mags. I will be double-checking the chambers on the pistol to ensure they are 9x18, and I'll post up pics in the morning to show the difference between the two. Anyone else had this issue with surplus CZ82's? ETA: online source withheld for the present time due to dubious nature of unmarked European surplus magazines. I may contact CZ-USA to verify feed-lip designs for various calibers. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I think the .32 ACP Mag for the CZ83 is ribbed. .32 or .380?
I have been told that factory CZ82 and the CZ83 magazines are identical. OP- Could you have received a mix of genuine, factory CZ mags and some other aftermarket mags (e.g.; ProMag, USAmag, TripleK)? |

Sorry for the delay in responding, and thanks for the replies.
No one seems to make aftermarket mags at all for the CZ82/83. I was able to locate some used 9mm Mak/.380 mags. The mags in question must be .32 mags, and were most likely mixed-in by accident overseas due to their scarcity here in the US. If anyone needs .32 Auto mags, send me a PM. The main difference between the 9mm Mak/.380 mags and the .32 Auto mags is in the feed-lips and followers. The .32 mags have a definite inward bend to the feed lips, while 9mm Mak/.380 has straight lips; the .32 follower is considerably smaller, as well. The good news is the CZ-82 is a surprisingly-accurate little gun after a few trips to the range. I fired three, 12-round mags using steel-cased Makarov brand ammo into exactly 4 holes at 7 yards. That's better accuracy than my M&P and USP Compact display. Now, to find some quality 9mm Mak HP loads for future CCW use. |

Just as in the .380, hollowpoints are not the best choice for self defense in this caliber. If they expand, and that's a big if in 9mm Mak and 380, they will severely under penetrate. Also it's 50/50 if your CZ 82 will cycle properly with JHP ammo. Mine won't. I have a large supply of the old Silver Bear 115gr. 9x18 JHPs that won't cycle in my 82. They will in my Bulgarian Makarov though. And even these very heavy for caliber rounds will not reliably expand. Get some good quality FMJs and use the CZ's demonstrated accuracy to it's best advantage. |

I'll experiment with a few ammo brands to see what feeds through it. I was pleasantly surprised with the Makarov brand ammo, I wasn't expecting very high quality for the price. Accuracy has been outstanding thus far for russian steel-case ball running through a surplus pistol. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Quoted: I would like to have a .32 CZ-82/83. I have an odd affinity for the .32 cartridge. I bet they shoot like a .22. I've kinda been looking around for one, I can't find one. GunsAmerica had one for $315 but it's been sold. It would be a fun shooting pistol for sure. |

I have a Walther PP in .32 and while the cartridge does not have impressive ballistics, it is quite snappy in the hand. Not hard to control but nothing like a .22LR. |

The CZ82 was only available in 9x18mm for the Czechosolvakian Army (replaced the 7.62x25mm CZ52 pistol) and the commercial verison (export sales) was the CZ83 available in 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP), 9x17mm Browning (.380 AC) and later 9x18mm. As stated the 82/83 version in 9mm cal are interchangable can mag capicity is 12 rds each. The 7.65 version had a slight increase at 15 rounds.
