Im interested in one of these but i noticed JG sells 2 different ones. One has the original barrel and the other has a NEW US Made barrel. Is the New US barrel worth the extra cash or should i just go with original? CDNN has the regulars for $40 less so i figured id ask.
Also i never ordered from CDNN before. Do they have the option to hand select best? |
| Original barrel is polygonal rifling and chrome lined. New barrels are traditional rifling and not chrome lined. My concern would be why the barrels were replaced. I haven't heard of any CZ 82's coming in with worn out barrels. Most have been carried much and fired little. |

IIRC, the 82 was the Czech military sidearm chambered and polygonal-barrelled in 9mm Makarov only.
When the Soviet crashed and exporting to the world opened, CZ did the 83 model with a squared trigger guard and added .380 and .32 acp to the 9mm Makarov chamberings. The Russkies and the former ComBloc satellite countries have changed over to 9mm Luger sidearms since the fall of the Soviet Union. Helps with joining NATO. Maybe the importer thinks a new .380 or .32 acp barrel would improve marketability here in the USA. Somewhere there is a warehouse full of CZ-82s surplused by the Czech and Slovakia Republics that an importer wants to sell. |

The original barrel would be "better", with the POSSIBLE (not definite) exception of shooting lead bullets. That's what I was wondering. The selling point being able to shoot lead cast bullets, whereas with the original polygonal, it would be a no-no. Not much available in the way of lead 9x18Mak ammo. Buffalo Bore makes a hard cast lead 9x18 that they claim is GTG in Poly rifling. |

That said, the '82s barrel is quite a bit different than a Glock or HK and for all I know it might shoot lead bullets just fine. |
