Chiappa Firearms, 1911-22
Who has one? Is it worth the low cost or just another piece of junk? *edit I know there is gun porn here swat magazine but I'd like to hear from someone who owns one...

2nd trip to the range with mom's Chiappa. It doesn't like Federal much and it hates Winchester. But it loves Remington. Had several FTFs but I chalk that up to bad ammo (good dimples, no bang).
Definitely fun to shoot. I couldn't put it down. I like the weight and feel in the hand. I'll be getting one soon, hopefully. |

My mom likes hers so much she got another one, this time for the rest of the family to use.
It has the black slide and adjustable sights. That thing is a tack driver. I'm able to get really good groupings with it and it will eat pretty much anything it gets fed. Which is strange, 'cause the tan slide 1911-.22 we have only likes CCI and Remington; wonder if the tan coating has anything to do with it (adds a little friction to the moving parts?). Now I'm looking for one, preferably with the black slide and non-adjustable sights. edit: 'American Rifleman' also had a positive review of it in the May issue. It's what helped us deside to try them out. Definitely take a look at it. |
| I have one a highly recommend it. You have to break it in (as the instructions state) with quality ammo like CCI Mini Mag. It is very accurate. The only wart with it is erratic ejection. You never know where the empties are going to go but they do go. That said mine runs fine and any issues were gone after about 150 rounds. I always use CCI so I don't know how it would work with the cheaper bulk pack stuff. |

I just bought one yesterday from a local gun store for $260.00 cash. It appears well made for the money but I won't have a chance to get to the gun range for a week or two. I bought some CCI mini mags to use for the breakin period. Then I'll try some of the other brands and see what it likes. I would have liked to had a Kimber conversion kit but my STI Ranger II has a ramped barrel and they don't work on that type of 1911.
The owner at the gun store said he has sold 5 of them in the last couple of weeks and so far everybody is happy with them. I did order two more mags from Midwest Hunters Supply for $20.99 each. They should be here by the end of the week. I'll post more with pictures once I get to the range. |
