I have a friend's handgun.  I am attempting to clean it for him.  I have downloaded a manual for it and have way too much time invested in attempting to tear the dang thing apart.  The only thing I have succeeded in doing is removing a roll pin that is supposed to allow the firing pin tension spring and firing pin to "fall out."  Can't get that to happen though.  Help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

My advice to you - and I sincerely hope you heed it - is not to attempt to take the durned thing apart.

The pin is the easy part.  You will then need to remove the firing pin block the pin held in place.  This involves the use of a hammer and something that won't mar the finish (wooden dowel, plastic rod, etc.  It requires a lot of force to get out.

Taking it apart is a major PITA, but getting it back together is where the true fun begins.  You have to pound the block back into the slide, and the opening is seemingly too small to fit.  After much frustration, and the realization that there was no elegant way to make my pistol work again, I just had to pound the thing back into place with a hammer - steel on steel.  It took a lot of force, and I was amazed it didn't break something.  I don't know how, but nothing got marred - I think it was divine intervention.

I now use something to hold the action open, and clean it as best I can while assembled.  Dunking it in one of those solvent baths is probably the best way to go, along with a bore snake.  I can honestly say I will never take mine apart again.  DON'T DO IT!

there has to be a way to field strip it that isnt that complicated

have you ever stripped one of the hipoints or raven/davis things?

they have that little nub thing in the back that holds the firing pin and spring in

you have to stick something in there to hold it in position while you fanangle the slide back up and away

the amt has to be somewhat similar there must be a way

dont destroy it with a hammer!!!

if anything keep searching the intarwebs you will find the answer

I have heard I am actually fortunate to have one that is tight.  Others have had ones that are loose that fall apart while shooting when the pin walks.  I like AMT handguns, but the takedown on this one is not well designed.  There isn't a trick to it I am missing - I did look around for instructions and got them, but no one made clear to me how difficult it was going to be.
