I need to buy some Mep night sights for a PM9 and I want to install them myself or do it very cheaply. Any suggestions? I've heard that Kahrs sights can be loose so it shouldn't be that hard to get them in...

I think the "loose" may apply to the Kahrs with older style slides. I've heard the newer Kahrs are a bugger to get the sights out. I'd have a smitty do them. My smitty only charged me $20

I have 2 PM9s to do though. I think you're right about the slides being tighter recently. More internet searching seems to think that.

your dfreamin my friend. Kahr sights are the tightest sights to ever try to get out. If you don't have a sight pusher, ur in deep trouble. If you have a smitty do it, for sure ask him if he has a sight pusher or don't leave it. Slides can be damage very easily when trying to take out kahr factory sights. No reason for them to be that tight but they are.  You might save 440 doing it yourself IF YOUCAN DO IT. but you might also screw up a good slide trying it.  IMO pay the extra and let kahr installthe sights for you. You can just send them the slide and that can be sent regular mail for about $5, turn around is probalby 2 weeks total.

You got a nice gun, keep it that way..

I  broke, bent every brass punch I had from gander mt when I tried to take my PM9 sights out, finally ended up buying a good sight pusher and wished I would have done it before I had ever thought about banging the old sight out, which never came ouot until I got a good sight pusher....I do have sme damn cute bent brass punches though..

Sounds like fun.

What sight pusher did you get, P500? 2OOL? I'm fairly handy and I love being able to work on things myself. Any I have other guns that could benefit from a sight pusher.

P500 works great on khars and glocks and M&P.

Hum. Well I'll see what the Kahr gunsmith charges then decide what to do. My girlfriend would kill me if I screwed up her PM9.

Had a gunsmith install mine.  He had to recut the bevel to make the site fit.  It's been several years, but I don't recall
that it cost over $25.  Definitely worth it!

I sent my CW40 slide in for night sights.  Total for sights, labor, and shipping was $145.  The work is flawless.  No marks scratches or gouge marks.  I would do it over again rather than trying it myself.  Returned in about 10 days, sent mine in around Christmas.

What sights did you get and how do you like them?

I went with Trijicon.  I feel it's worth it, especially with their tight dovetails.  One of two things can happen when going the cheap route.  Damaging the sights or the dovetails, not worth it to me.

If you get a chance I'd like to see pics of your CW40 with the new Trijicon sights on it. The only ones I've seen so far have been of their website.

Have any of y'all had a problem with manufacturers' front night sights being too tall or too short for the Kahr stock rear sight, or are any differences usually too small to notice?

I broke a friend's sight pusher trying to install night sights on a recent manufacture PM9.  I ended up just sending the slide to Kahr for install. I'm just glad I used the sight pusher on my G19 before attempting same on the PM9.    Here's some pic's.

On super tight dovetailed sights I use a Dremel with a cut off blade and just split the sights down the middle.
I stop cutting just before it's all the way through the sight, then a quick tap with a punch and everything just falls out.
Go slow and be careful and you won't scratch the slide.
For installation, I polish the bottom of the sights with emery cloth until finger pressure gets them 1/3 of the way started in the dovetail then tap them in with a punch and add some Lock-Tite.
Never had one come out or move.

Good Idea on that. Definitely a good way to get it out.
