I got a Smith & Wesson chiefs special model 36.  I got it used for dirt cheap. Overall it is in great shape, but there is a little rust on the barrels exterior.  It was a police officers back up weapon.  Anyone know what to do? Or how to clean or prevent?  Its a great gun and worth saving.  Thanks

If blued, use 000 steelwool w/gun oil. Apply oil to rust spot, use 000 steel wool gently.
If stainless, polish it out with "Flitz" metal polish and a small buffing wheel (Dremel etc)
This method has worked countless times for me.
