I have a .45 that I installed several upgrade parts on. Now, the pistol locks up with the hammer cocked. I have not loaded the weapon yet, so it's no immediate safety problem. I have added the following parts in step 1 of my upgrade: Wilson competetion trigger King's drop in grip safety Arched mainspring housing (from Brownells, I forgot who made it) Range time showed the gun functioned 100%. I went to the gunshow in Mesquite, TX last weekend and got the following: Chip McCormick drop in "commander" style hammer and sear. I installed the above and now the gun locks up. I'm on the road (trucker) so I won't tinker for a few weeks, but my question here is since I installed the allen screw in the trigger, am I not getting enough rearward trigger travel to drop the hammer? I had it set good, but for the factory sear. Any ideas would be greatly apreciated. Thanks. |

Since I posted my question, I have read that many people actually remove the set screw all together as this is a very potential weak link in 1911 reliablity. This .45 is just a play gun, but I prefer to be able to depend on any firearm I own. It sucks having a dead lined gun. Thanks |

It may be coincidental that the trigger stop screw is causing the problems at the same time that you installed the new hammer and sear...but it could be some type of interference due to some dimensional differences in your new parts. Before turning any screws...reinstall your old hammer and sear and see what happens. If the gun still locks up that is probably your problem. If you use the gun for self defence I reccommend removing the screw altogether. I don't even allow adjustable triggers in my house unless they are someone elses' gun...and then I usually beg them to let me rip it out. If you use a good qualtiy, well fitted trigger, hammer, sear and safety in conjunction with good components like springs, MSH parts and such you can get a dandy trigger without having to use an adjustable stop. |

Ok, got it figured out! Sorry I took so long to get it done, but the truck driving thing... My King's grip safety doesn't have sufficient clearance for the Combat style hammer. I re-installed the factory Gov't style grip safety and voila! 50 rounds down range no problems. I also removed the trigger overtravel screw, just for the hell of it. Thanks guys. |
