No comments yet about the topic of the post because of the drama above.
I might check out a Springer revolver, but I'd still buy a S&W, because I'd like a 686 .357. One of the things about Springfield is that they have focused what they're doing into a niche market and they do it well. I'm in the IT field and I've seen niche companies that branched out and their quality overall dropped. Springfield has been in business for a long time though, and I'd bet they'll bring quality to any product they make. So overall I have mixed feelings, but I'd love to see what innovations they bring to the market. |

I'd like to see one from Springfield similar to the new S&W offering (I think it's called a night guard) It needs to be matte black or stainless, have quick aquisition/tritium sights, and be in a larger caliber...say .357 and up. I'd probably give it a hard look, but I'm quite a Springfield whore |

One of the things about Springfield is that they have focused what they're doing into a niche market and they do it well. Actually, when SA first got really cranked up they did mostly M1A's, probably 90% over everything else. Once they saw that people wanted an option to Colt, they then began ramping up their 1911s. |

SA makes clones of Colt 1911s, and well. Fixed it......... Rather than another Colt clone of a wheelgun, I was thinking SA might apply the same foresight they used in their array of 1911 models towards revolvers. IOW, offer things that gun owners have for years been saying "Why doesn't someone make xxxxxxxx...........????" Obviously the wheelgun market is pretty well covered with S&W, Ruger & Taurus being the Big Three. But I think there's gotta be some areas that aren't being hit by the Big Three. For example, besides Taurus, is anyone making a mid-sized .22LR revolver these days? What about a .44spl snubbie in a steel frame? Not to mention, what about a pure target revolver with a 4" & 6" barrel length in a variety of calibers, from .22 to .45acp., in blued steel?

Then I would like to see SA develop something from the ground up without building off another product. SA makes excellent firearms and I am pleased with fit and finish, but what has SA developed in house completely?
Examples: M1As, M1 Garands, etc. are all copies of military rifles with modern refinements, such as rails, modern metallurgy, etc. Nothing revolutionary. Every company makes 1911s, except Ruger. XD = HS2000 Don't get me wrong, I love SA products and WILL get more, but I think of SA as a company that starts with an existing product and seeks to build off of it. Innovation, yes, but with direct roots in an already existing product. .22 wheelguns: There is room to expand there. Ruger still makes a single six, I don't think they ever made a DA .22. Taurus builds a DA .22 and US Firearms builds two models of SA .22s. I really like their 12/22. There is plenty of room to move in with an innovative DA .22 revolver |

Well, care to name other mfgrs making Garand or M1A copies currently sold in the US? IMHO, it doesn't have to be groundbreaking or earth shattering for some of us to prefer a SA product, as you mentioned yourself. Certainly their usual quality level alone warrants a close look, IMO. In fact, *I* believe it's the quality alone that would merit their entry & sustainability into the revolver market. Possibly offer a range similar to their 1911 options of a generic mil-spec to the TRP/Trophy versions. Now, what those offerings could/would be is what I'm asking the hive minds. Goodness knows we've come up with some radically too cool ideas on wish lists before. Amateur John Browning's, if you will. Or at least his muse. |
| Since Springfield's business model is to take an existing design and rebadge it, it hard to see this working. Not aware of any revolver brands or designs that fit the criteria. Doubtfull Smith, Ruger or Colt will be selling out any of their products to SA. Can't really think of much floating around Europe that SA could get to, restamp, raise the price, and sell as their own. On top of which the revolver market is pretty stagnant and dominated by two large powerful competitors. |

No disagreement there, but all have some holes that could be filled, IMO. .22 wheelguns come to mind, for example. Given the cost of ammo, everyone & their brother are looking for cheap shooting. Keep in mind that this thread/poll is NOT in ANY way connected to Springfield. This is purely for entertainment purposes only. |
| One spot in the revolver market that could use help would be revolvers chambered in semi auto calibers. It took me years to get a hold of a decent S&W 625 (45 ACP). I know alot of shooters that would like to see a 10mm / 40 S&W revolver as well. If some one offered a good 9mm unit I would probably buy as well. Too bad its likely a pipe dream. |

Sorry about the delay, I've been enjoying a few days off with the GF. SA discontinued the M1 Garand. I do not know of ANY other manufacturers, although Norinco (China) did make some at one point. Fulton Armory and LBH make M1As, although not even remotely as affordable as SA's. One company makes a semi-auto BAR but it costs even more than the abovementioned M1As. Revolvers though? You may be able to break into USFA's game and build AFFORDABLE military model revolvers. One of the reasons their prices are so high, however, is there is very little demand for the product to justify mass production on a scale that would dramatically lower the overhead costs per unit produced. I think a better market is to stick to former military pieces. BAR, 1903, 1903A3, M1 carbine, someone suggested 1917 |

I don't believe Norinco/Polytech ever made a Garand, they made a M-14 knock-off though. The irony of the Chinese making a rifle that killed them by the thousands in the Korean War is very high. Not quite as high as them making the 1911, but still high. |
