i have an XD40 4" and the slide is becoming rather worn along the top edges of the slide due to using the supplied kydex holster.

does anyone know if perma blue will take and make this look a little cleaner or do i need to have it refinished?

I stripped mine and now I have a two-tone.  Looks pretty good, I think.  The permablue may not be uniform, and is probably more trouble than it's worth.  Try that black marker that they makem, I hear it works good.  If it doesn't, then you can always strip it!.

It is just a tool and they make thousands of them just the same every month, no need to keep it other than functional.  So let it be worn, it is an honorable look well earned

With all due respect its a gun not a Corvette....worn marks are good it means you're using it.

(never understood why some shooters want their guns to  look new???)

I like mine to look new because i pay good money for them.  and if I happen to want to resale them later on I will get more of that money back.

I clean my tools in my garage when im done with them too.  i like all my stuff to look nice

I started using my XD for CCW in a comp-tac IWB holster.  The slide is starting to show a lot of wear especially since i practice draw and re-holstering to get used to CCW.

I will watch this post with interest to see if anyone else posts a suggestion.

BTW - who makes Duracoat?

Hey  huskAR and Defforreason do your XDs have the original finish SA used, or the newer finish SA switched to about 2(ish?) years back?
