I have an Insight X2/XML on my 4" Service . I like the size as it lines up perfectly with the trigger guard and the end of the barrel. The problem is its not bright enough, 40 lumens . Any one know of another light that is same size but bright like a Glock light, which I believe is 90 lumens ?http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x194/Mimis_Mom/XD002.jpg

I think the XML is the smallest rail light out right now and I don't know of anyone else coming out with a light similar in size. If you don't mind the light sticking out a tad get a TLR-1 which can usually found for $100 or less. I have one on my XD but it is a tactical model and does not go past the end. I have an XML like yours but I use it on my sub-compact only. IMO, don't compromise for looks if this is for HD unless your holstering the XD, for home defense a light sticking alittle out in front is not going to matter.

TLR-1. If you want a laser get the TLR-2. I have seen the rep from them drive 16p nails with one and it kept working fine.

x300 or tlr 1 are the real players right now.

i have yet to see any of the insight lights hold up to heavy use or be bright enough to be actually useful

+1

One went on EE the other day for $100 and can be had for 120-140 on the regular used.  Very bright.

I have the XML for my subcompact because thats all that fits but it really isnt much of a light. If youve got the room on a service size XD you would be wise to use a surefire or streamlight

Not exactly the same size, but I'm seeing a trend on replies.
I guess the question to you is does size matter
You want flush with barrel or you want to see what you're shooting at?

ETA: I recently shot a night time defensive class with this weapon.  We did everything from laid out courses of fire, to the 21' drill in pitch black dark.  My personal cut....I don't care how far it extends past the end of the barrel, I want the threat illuminated!

10-4 on lighting up the target. Helps blind the subject plus identify the target better. One of the first steps in using deadly force.

A warning on pistol mounted lights. Our armorer sgt send out a memo on this matter. Seems several officers were using lights that caused malfunctions during firearms refresher. When the lights were taken off the pistols worked fine. There are lights our guys use that work but again I don't have the makes/models.

Wish I kept the memo because he identified the models causing the problems. Being in the crime lab/crime scene I'm more concerned about other stuff right now.

The gist of the story is......whatever attachment you use, make sure it works with the ammo you're going to be using.

I have a TLR1 on my xd .45 compact. it loosens after about a mag. i bought it for my .40 compact xd, but it flipped off at night after firing. on both pistols i have cranked to ensure a tight fit on the bottom rails. i notice that the forward bar will not engage onto the slide frame. it irks me. it fits fine on my warrior though. any tips?

Mine is tight as super glue straight out of the box.
Never had a single problem with it coming loose and it's got a lot of rounds down range.

for the price and quality: Streamlight TLR-1

for the brightness: Surefire x200 or x300
