My SA Ultra Compact V10 has a fully adjustable target sight on the rear. it was this way when it was given to me. As far as I can tell this a SA brand sight and if it is, according to the SA web site it is a Novak cut. I am wanting to order a sight that is better for carry (this one has sharp edges and it is big). is there a way to tell what kind of cut it is? Will i need to replace the front if I do the rear? What kind of sight do you reccomend?

No clue about what front sight you may or not need, but for all things sight related I go to Novak Sights. Most likely they'll know the correct answers to all your questions. For a modest additional fee, they'll also sight in your gun if the change out the sights for you. This saved me untold aggravation with a used USP I had that shot WAY too high.
