My girlfriend just bought an XD .40 to use as her duty weapon. we have noticed that the mag release button is extremely stiff with a loaded mag, slide in battery. It is normal with slide locked back, or with an empty mag, and drops the mag easily, like it should. Will this correct itself through use, or is it something that will require a trip to Springfield. Anyone?

Probably normal. Especially if it's a full mag. You have the added tension of the rounds being compressed into the slide acting on the mag release.

Try with just a partial mag and see if it's still a problem.

when you have a loaded mag inserted on a closed slide, the force of the mag spring is pushing against the mag release. That is why you don't have the same problem on a locked open slide, or an empty mag. Took me a few min. to figure that out when I got my XD45, I had the same concern.

It'll get easier to release with time.  My XD45 compact was a little stiff at first but it's relaxing a bit.

it is normal and that is the way that both of my xd' s have been, they do get esier with use and you wll have no trouble dropping an empty mag at all.

btw congrats on a fine duty weapon.
