It's a .45 acp service model. This is only the third time I've had it at the range so I haven't had a lot of time with it. I tried some 230gr +p  Federal tactical HST JHP to see how they worked, and at least every other round did a nose dive and the XD jammed up. I thought maybe I was limp wristing it and held my wrist tight, but that didn't help. I also tried some PMC FMJ and a couple failed to go into battery, and I would have to assist the slide forward to shoot (this didn't happen a whole lot, but enough for me to take notice). The XD was doing this with more than one mag, so I was wondering if it's possible that the mags are sitting to low to allow the bullets to hit the feed ramp properly? I'm thinking of calling Springfield. Any suggestions?

Thanks

can you describe the jams w/ a little more detail? how were the rnds nose dived (at what angle)? etc

check several things:

check your bbl/chamber--do the rnds drop in readily or is it 'tight'

mark your mags, make sure that its not a particular mag that has the problems (h/w, it could have been the JHP's, but i dont think so)...it may be your mag's follower or spring, esp from the sound of a couple of your problems

try diff ammo brands--both FMJs and JHPs and see if the same problems occure

check your recoil spring to ensure its seated right/of the correct tension, etc

They would nose dive downward. They seem to catch under the feed ramp that’s attached to the frame of the XD (not the feed ramp that's attached to the chamber/barrel).  Only the PMC had trouble going into battery, but this only started after the problems with the JHPs. I only used one mag with the JHPs, but I've never had a problem with it before (only FMJs though) and they aren’t that old. The mags that I used while shooting the PMC FMJ are brand new, never been used before, and it happened with all 3 of them at least once. I was wondering if it was the JHPs that caused it, but then I started having problems with the FMJ. Both problems seem to be two separate issues because I'm really not understanding why it wouldn’t feed JHP and then failed to go into battery. I really don't think it's a problem with the mags(although, I could be wrong). I'm wondering if it could be the feed ramp being dirty that caused it? I've never seen or heard of a dirty feed ramp causing problems and I only shot about 200 rounds.

Thanks

As far as rounds nose-diving in XD45 mags, there seems to be a somewhat common deficiency in the mag springs.  I've replaced the factory 13 round springs in my full size mags with the extended springs from AGP and moved the original 13 round springs into my compact 10 round mags.

My nose-diving problems stopped. Coincidence? YMMV

I cant help with this but i own the exact same gun and run Hydro shocks with out incident so the weapon should be able to run them. good luck on finding the issue, i love my XD 45 ACP.

+1 to all the above.

Is it possible you don't even have the right mag? Your problem sounds like the mag itself is too short.

They are the correct mags. I'm going to call springfield to see what they say.

Springfield had me send it in to fix the problem.

Springfield decided to just exchange the XD because of all the problems I had with it. One major reason is it had injection mold markings in the trigger guard. It has a dark earth frame and the injection molding is black. The only problem is they will not have a dark earth frame for about four months. So I decided to have them just try to fix it and send it back to me. Hopefully they can. My experience with this gun is making me second guess the so called reliability. Their CS is extremely helpful; hopefully they will take care of me.

Don't despair! Many of us have been banging away for thousands of rounds without trouble. I am sure they will get it up and running quickly.

They wont have any flat earth frames in so I hade them fix mine. They said they had to fix the mag catch. Well it was so tight that sometimes the mag wouldn’t even catch and stay in place. I would have to jam it as hard as I could to get it in and sometime hold it in place. It was easier with the slide open. I call Springfield and they told me that’s how XDs are, that their would be a lot of resistance and that I would have to jam it in and that’s why they recommend inserting the mag with the slide open. I have never heard of this and that’s what I told them. I settled on a black frame so I could get one NIB and not have to wait for months. They did send me two new mags and XD gear, but I’m still not very happy.

My XD40's mag seats tight with a full mag and the slide closed. From what I have seen, this appears to be normal. My GF's XD9sc works in much the same way. I find both will seat correctly if the mag is inserted with sufficient force.

My XD40 has been 100%, so I doubt the tight mag is a significant problem. The XD9sc had a few extraction problems, but only when my GF was shooting it and they went away when I told her to mind her grip and not limp wrist it. I have not had the opportunity to shoot my XD45c yet, so I cannot comment on it.
