I want to get one, I've NEVER fired a XD, can anyone tell me if it's a pretty good sidearm?

I just purchased my first XD45 4" Model last Sunday (still new to the family so please keep that in mind).  I can tell you that I am very impressed with it thus far.  About 200 rounds down range and no hic-ups.  It fits my hands well and I am much more accurate with it than I am with my recently stolen sig 229 (gotta love traveling to Houston).  I have numerous hand guns from sigs to glocks and a variety of wheel guns.  This one has been a great addition and is slowly becoming my primary carry gun.

I just got a tactical 45.  Only 1 range trip so far, but I was very impressed with the results.  I was actually surprised by how good it was.  Like I said, it's only 1 range trip so far, so I hesitate to start glowing about it already, but I'm very happy with what I got for my $500.

I've put over a thousand rounds through my XD45 without a failure that I didn't cause. (I put some low-power match ammo through it and it would not cycle.)

I haven't seen a round it wouldn't chamber, either. In fact I loaded up 5 fired cases, and hand-cycled the slide; it chambered all 5 cases without any problem.

I CCW with mine daily. I have complete confidence in it.

I have both the XD9 and XD45. Absolutely solid guns. Will eat anything and keep on trucking. Great gun in my opinion.

I have the 5" XD45. I have fired between 2000 to 3000 rounds through it so far.  It has not malfunctioned yet.

"pretty good sidearm"

in my opinon they are the best polymer handgun on the market especially for the price point i have 2 xd's and i love em and i will definetly be buying more. and there is nothing like the 13+1 capacity that comes in the xd frame that is a great size and even easy for me to manipulate even with my small hands.

Excellent sidearm... this coming from a 1911 fan. I swear I hate the predicament of choosing which sidearm to take to the range... so I TAKE BOTH

I have one, and I like it. I shot it side by side with a glock, and it won me over. I do not like the angle you have to hold a glock to fire it.

Best sidearm I've ever owned.  Far more accurate than I.  4th trip to the range with my subcompact.  70 rds of CHEAP FMJ, 3, 7 & 15 yards.  All the head shots are double taps.  Never before have I had a small .45 that was controllable enough to do that.

I've had an XD40 since about 2003 and its been an excellent handgun. I'm very happy with it and it has never given me reason to distrust it in any way.

If I didn't alreay have 5 .45s, I'd have an XD45. As it is, I'm still probably going to buy one eventually.

I did the same thing at SHOT...compared it with Glock and S&W M&P...XD won

I've had an XD-40 since 2002(maybe 2001?) and love it, when they came out with the 45's, I ended up getting both the 4" and 5" models after a little while, still haven't gotten around to picking up the compact model in 45 yet, but I did get a subcompact XD-9 for my wife for concealed carry.

The only thing I don't care for about them is the width of the slide... Everything else is great.

I just fondled a few 45's last night'  XD45, M&P45, and a kimber tactical.  I like the S&W hands down on the way it fit my hands, but the trigger was absolutly the worst I have felt. I loved the Kimber, but is a little pricier than the other 2.  The springfield would probably be my choice of the two, with the Kimber being first.
