Ok, I've got a Springfield 1911 A1(mil-spec model). I'm having two problems and I wonder if theire both related. The first problem is I'm getting some rounds that will stove pipe? when the slide come forward. I have 8 mags for it, 3 military 7 round mags and 5 8 round mags(don't remember the make off hand), it does it on all the mags. The second problem though is that when the slide locks back after the first mag, when I slam another mag up into it the slide will come foward without my releasing it. Could the recoil spring need replaced?

How many rounds through this pistol?

Your slide stop may not have good surface contact to the slide, oryou're slamming your mags in too hard.

My guess is that your extractor tension is not set correctly.

But do not rule out your mags.  If you have a friend with different 1911 mags try those.

If your pistol has over 5000 rounds change the recoil spring.

+1 on those.

I would think with 8 different mags, they are not the problem, IMO.

I've put maybe 500 rounds through it over the past 3 1/2 years. Before that I don't know, but it couldn't have been to many. When I got it, it looked brand new.

My SA slide stop was bad from day 1. Got it replaced, no problems now.
