I am in the market for a mid-size 1911 A1 .45 style handgun. I like the way the GI looks and it appears to have the style that I want. I was wondering if anyone had one and could share on how it shoots and the fell of the handgun. Or could anyone suggest another route to head in. Thanks in advanced. -When lost there is always a way out- |
| The G.I.s are great pistols keep going in the direction you are going in. If you want 3-dot sights and the opened up ejection port go with the Mil-Spec that is about $90 more. I like the GI.s my self and I like the small sights on them. Most people prefer the 3-Dots to the G.I. sights. |
| I own one. Pretty happy with it. I had a problem with it about 6 months ago; it wouldnt return to battery on a fresh round. I took the advice of a local gunsmith to polish the feed ramp with Flitz compound, and brush the chamber. Scince doing that the gun is back to 100%. |
| I bought a GI for the purpose of tricking it out. If you are going to keep the work minimal, then go with the Mil-Spec. The lowered ejection port offers a bit more reliability. An action job, and a ramp and throat job is something to look into also if you want to feed hollow points reliably. |
Got that right. I purchased a Springfield GI about 2 years ago. Shoots everything I feed it including hollow points. Love the pistol. First 1911 pattern pistol that I have owned that has not given me any problems. Of course all the other 1911 pistols that I have owned where 3'' or 3.5" barreled unreliables. |

Both the Mil-Spec and GI are good guns, I prefer the Mil-Spec due to the sights though. LOSTCOP004: If you want your phrase "-When lost there is always a way out-" to automatically appear everytime you post,, go to the top of the page and click on "Edit Profile". You should be able to add that phrase to the "signature" portion. This way you wont have to type it everytime you post and it wont drive me nuts! |
+1 Though you have to be a paying member to have a signature. I would still rather not see it in the main body of the messages though. |
Wow, I've never noticed the serrrations on the slide being different before, nice. |

I have the Mil-Spec as my CCW piece and LOVE IT!!! It always works with out a hiccup. (OK My first batch of reloads didn't work too well. That was my fault) 800 rounds without a FTfire Ftfeed or FTE. Park will wear in the holster rather quickly but what the hell. Break it in 200rds or so Clean it Carry it LOVE it |
They sell brand new around here for $440, if you can haggle the guy down a bit, it might be a good buy. |
They should be that price brand new! I wouldn't pay that for a used one. I'd try to get him to at the most $400. |
New for $449 here |
