So I just got my springer precision solid guide rod, and 1911 spring. Am I supposed to trim this thing down? If so, how?

No you don't cut down springs or guide rods, exactly what is the issue?

I was just talking about the spring. I have an xd service, so the solid guide rod I ordered matched up fine. But the 1911 spring is way huge, and pretty much impossible to compress onto the guide rod. I started to think maybe since the 1911 is a 5 inch pistol, and the xd is a 4 inch, maybe I need to cut the spring down. I don't know.

Yes, you have a problem, you have two different models of guns and the length is different also. Did Springfield tell you this combo would work?

More important...did Springer say that would work?  Springfield would not know.  If you called to ask they would have no idea what you were talking about.

Call Springer Precision.

Yes, if you have a 1911 spring you will need to trim 1" of coils off for the service (4") version of the XD. You can install the guide rod and NO spring, pull the slide back, and mark the guide rod at the muzzle end when the slide is fully rearward. Trim coils until the slide returns to this point and you will be good to go.

Thanks! I was going to call you Monday. But uh... Yeah. I think I cut it too short before I read this.
