| I just got some mepro night sights for my XD45 and was wondering if anyone has an easy way to install without using a vise. |
| You will not be able to install them without a vise. I don't think even a heavy duty sight pusher will move them. I have done it three times and each time I had to take a Dremel wheel and cut the front sight down the middle to get them out. These are even tougher to move than Kimber sights. If you don't have access to a heavy duty vise, take them to a smith and have it done. |
| Pay the $20 or so and have a good smith install your sights. XD sights are a PITA to remove. There are several well-known shops that specialize in the XD, I would go with one of them. If you just take it to some local shop, there is a good chance that they will screw it up if they haven't done many XD sight installs. Some food for thought, make sure to click on the pics for more details: http://www.xd-hs2000.com/xd-hs2000/DIY_Gone_Wrong.html |

check on xdtalk.com. otherwise you'll end up: bruising your slide(leaving marks), breaking the new sights, smashing your fingers/hand, being really pissed at yourself; any or all of the preceeding!
spend the money(not really very much)and send your slide to springer or ajames(the only two i've done business with). anyone who says they will install your xd sights for $20 probably doesn't know what they are doing(or doesn't value their time if they do know what they are doing). i've seen plenty of cases(and heard of several more) where folks ended up w/beat up slides and then had to send them to springer or SA to get sights mounted. |

That's how much ajames charges, including return shipping and with a 24hr turnaround Quoted:

Thats funny on the comment, you know I have people all the time that tell me I don`t value my time :)
You kind of have to put it in perspective I can get a set of sights installed in about 5-10 minutes since I have done thousands of them. So if you say 10 for return shipping and 10 for the work. I try to go the bulk route and knock out at least 4 an hour. If I keep the price low and turnaround quick with good quality. It sounds crazy but it can be done as long as I continue to earn business, hopefully this can continue to be my only job. Any way thank you for the complements. |

Im ok paying the money to install them so how do I go about sending my slide to you? Can I mail the slide without an ffl? The quick turn around makes the deal sound even sweeter since this is my primary CHL weapon. |

The sight are notoriously tight in the XDs. For most home smiths, by the time you pad your vise to not mar the slide you get enough movement to lose the energy in the blow, and nothing happens. I have done ok on the one I did, but for that money even I would go to ajamesp51 if I had any doubts at all. ajamesp51 has been doing work on the pistol before it was even a glimmer in Springfield's eye, back when it was imported as the HS2000 (as it is still known in the rest of the world). |

He did an awesome job on mine. |

AJames did a great job on my XD9 sights. I would highly reccomend him. Super quick turn around and not a sigle mark on my slide. Need your sights repalced? I can't think of a better guy to get it done for you at a great price. |
