I love revolvers and I love .22s.   Picked this one up today and went straight home to shoot it.  Fantastic.

The Model 18 wears a 4" barrel and the Model 17 had a 6" or 8.375" barrel. Some of the Pre Model 17 guns were made with 4" barrels...but in general a M18 is a 4" gun.

Yes, I looked at a model 18 as well and had that on my mind, it is a 17.

Would love to know where for the Model 18 to go with my 17-2.

Pretty much any dealer should be able to get what S&W is passing off as a M18 now.

I know some of you guys don't like the new classic series as they are not the same as the originals, but I was impressed with it enough to buy it and I would encourage anyone to give them a look if you are looking for a nice .22 plinker.  They certainly are not a replacement for the originals, lock and all, but nice nonetheless, IMO.

That will be a fun gun.  Just had a new front sight put on mine.  Dang all black sights were impossible to see against a black target.

The orange fiber optic solved that.

My Model 17 dates from 1958. Magnificent accuracy and balance. I just wish it came in stainless. I have a couple of 617s, but they don’t have the feel of the 17.

Nice....How does it shoot?
Did you get a good deal on it?
I have been looking for one but most dealers are asking insane prices.

I only put 30 rounds through it as I was running out of daylight.  I didn't sight it in, but the groups were good with cci standard velocity and the single action trigger is fantastic. CCI standards have not been the best in any of my 22's.  I can't wait to find the gun's favorite ammo.  No I did not get a good deal on it, but I priced it at 4 places and this was the lowest I could find.  I understand that dealer cost is $744 and MSRP is around $1050.  I gave $825 for it.

Not sure where to ask this but I know next to nothing about revolvers.  Today my grandfather asked if I can help sell the smith that he has.  I only had literally one minute to look at it because my dad was waiting for me so I couldn't get any model numbers

It's definitely a smith and wesson, and it s a 6 shot .38, 4" barrel, purchased in 1969, and looks like the revolver in the OP (but 2" shorter obviously).  Is that enough info to figure out what model it is?  Google has not been my friend today.

Personally, I can not see buying a current "classic" model S&W when the real thing is out there on the used market for less (and higher quality).

I agree with you to an extent, but it was one of those guns that I saw and had to have.  I'm sure most here can identify with that.  I have quite a few Smiths (k frames are my favorite) and I like almost all of them.  Anyway, I'm happy with it, but I still see your point and I can't really argue with it.

Good score. I am looking for a decent priced m48 to hopefully end my 22 rev addiction.

That would be one I would like to have, as well.  It's a crime what they get for 22 Mag ammo these days, though.  I was thinking of a Single Six in 17 HMR since the ammo is about the same price around here as 22 mag.
