| I've owned a S&W MP340 for a little over a year now. It's my duty BUG and off duty carry. While I like shooting .357 out of it at the range, I have to carry Speer GD 135gr +P on duty. It's very lightweight, small and very accurate with the Big Dot sights. Today I rented a Ruger LCR and shot a box of Magtech 158gr ammo through it. I was amazed at how nice shooting this thing is. It's ugly as sh*t, but that first shot really surprised me. I can't believe how nice the trigger is on it. My only complaint was the trigger has to let out all the way to avoid short stroking it. It reminds me of the Ruger SP101 I used to have. Shooting the same magtech ammo in my 340, I did notice slightly more recoil in the S&W. I laid both pistols on top of each other and except for a slightly larger trigger guard on the LCR, they are the same size and weight. I'm seriously considering selling my 340 and buying a LCR, especially with Big Dot front sights being available for it. Unfortunately my agency does not approve of the LCR for duty carry, but I can easily replace it with a G26 for BUG use. Anyone else replace their 340 or similar S&W lightweight snubby for a LCR? |

yes –– your definitely crazy. Its a weird looking little scooter, that LCR, but they said that about the Glock too 25 years ago. If you like it, rock on |

I love my new LCR! Of course, I also love my new New Agent. So, this morning I carried both of them, after all, that is probably less weight than the Gov't model I used to carry.
I definitely prefer the LCR to any of the lightweight Smiths, even if it is only by a small margin. The looks tend to grow on you the longer you own and shoot one. |

Quoted: There's reportedly been some problems with a nylon/plastic pin busting in the LCRs and locking them up. I have no doubt they are great guns - I want one myself - but I'm going to wait until they've been around awhile and all the bugs get worked out. This. To me, it's somewhat of a "radical" design, as a revolver. I too would wait a few years, looking for multiple reports of folks putting 10s of thousands of rnds through them with no serious problems, before I were to buy one. The Smith 340 is a good revolver, if I had one there is no way I would be contemplating selling it to get an LCR. |
