| I know this might sound silly, but I was just wondering... Is it possible to shoot a .380 ACP round through a 9 mm revolver? Just wondering... |
|
Short answer: No.
Long answer: The dimensions are different enough that the firing pin will push the .380 cartridge into the chamber of the 9mm pistol. The specs for both bullets are found in this Wikipedia article When it comes to guns, there are no silly questions, only silly mistakes. Doh... just noticed the OP specified "REVOLVER." silly mistakes... |

Depends on whether you have a revolver capable of using moon clips. We shot .40 S&Ws through a 10mm 610 revolver using moon clips so,,,, You would also need the right moon clips. .380 and 9mm have a different casehead. .380 would be awfully loose in a moon clip designed for 9mm. |

Not after it was fired!!! I wonder how many cases would fail? |

I said it would work, like a .22 long rifle in a .22 Magnum chamber,,, |

As mentioned if the 9mm revolver takes moon clips it might. On those that headspace on the case mouth ie, Ruger Blackhawk, Smith 547 than no as the case will go too far into the cyclinder to prevent the fining pin from reaching the primer.
Theres was the Medusa revolver that was designed to function with several 38 cal rimmed cartridges and 9mm rimless ones. CD |

Not after it was fired!!! I wonder how many cases would fail? I'm talking rim diameter, not cartridge diameter. (and I actually don't think any cases would fail) Try it and see! Just compare .380's to 9mm's and see how much difference you can see – quite a bit. Then drop a .380 in a 9mm barrel to the same depth a 9mm would load – do this with a barrel out. Note all the gap around the case… push a 9mm in and see how it goes away. Will it split? Don't know for sure, but the difference between a .22 LR and a .22 Mag is 0.016"… The difference in 9mm & .380 is 0.017" but there is greater difference in Pressure. Still, with a clip, might work, might not Rims? Diameter: 9mm 0.394 - .380 0.374 Thickness: 9mm 0.05 - .380 0.045 If I had a 9mm revolver (clips) I would sure give it a try... |
