So, what are the opinions on these things? Have there been any issues with them? Thinking about buying a 686 4incher and was wondering what you guys think. Thanks for any info.

I am a lover of S&W revolvers and fine trigger pulls in any firearm
I have a new 617 22lr with this internal lock system.First time I tried the lock I was unable to "unlock" it  and eventually had to return to the gunstore which was holding a S&W event with S&W reps onsite. The S&W rep was able to unlock it.I am just going to leave it that way.I am not crazy about this thing, but It does not seem to have any negative effect on operation or trigger pull.I don't use gun locks as such as I have my guns in my hot little hand or in my gunsafe.I would not  count on being able to unlock one of thease things without good eyesight and bright lights

Do these lock the hammer, the trigger, or both?

General consensus on the S&W lock is:
A. Nobody LIKES having it on their gun.
B. Trigger pull is unaffected.
C. It stays locked, or unlocked and doesn't move on it's own.

In other words, it a non-issue whether you choose to use it or not use it.

The lock actually engages the hammer and prevents it from moving.
Since the hammer can't move, neither can anything else.
