I have a SuperRedhawk in .480 that has in my opinion, the heaviest/grittiest trigger pull of any firearm ever. What are some ways to improve upon this ? Are there any SRH specialty 'smiths out there or even common DIY solutions.
I really like this gun, but compared to my model 29 or Trooper, it's just frustrating to shoot accurately. |
| Brownell sells a Wolff spring package very cheap, I think like under $10. Comes with 3 different sets of spring weights. Very easy to replace, I did it in less than 30 minutes and I am not very mechanically inclined. Google search SRH disassembly procedure if you don't have the original manual. BTW, I chose the mid spring weight and have not had any misfires eventhough I live in a cold climate. |

One is very simple - use grease on the trigger group. I bought a stainless Security Six in 1979 and I have been using RIG Stainless Steel grease on it ever since. I haven't seen a stainless revolver that couldn't be improved by using the right lubricant on the trigger group and the cylinder internals. Second, if you are very careful, you can use a very hard, very fine ceramic (white) stone to polish the working surfaces of the hammer and trigger. Just a few swipes to polish, and nothing more. You certainly shouldn't remove enough metal to change the contact angles or amount of engagement. Some people may freak at that advice, but I did it without trouble. |
