Took my new 460 V (5 in. barrel, which is really a 4 in. with 1 in. of compensator) to the range today.
I shot 5 rounds of Hornady 200 gr. flex tip bullets. All I can say is I still have a big grin on my face. The largest handgun I've shot before this was a 357 mag. The recoil was not bad at all in fact one could say that it recoils very little. The muzzle blast on the other hand is unlike anything I've ever experienced. Each pull of the trigger produced a concussion wave which resonated every inch of my body. It's a lot like being too close to an M-80 fire cracker. The revolver performed flawlessly, and has an extremely light single action trigger pull. The double action is pretty stiff. Form and function where flawless. What's funny is I actually fired it for the first time yesterday behind my house. I had been shooting a .40 cal for most of the afternoon. My wife and son had taken a nap when I decided to try out the big 460 mag. I shot one round in which I actually caught the huge fireball with my eyes before blinking. My wife came running out of the house wondering what went wrong. She thought I had blown myself up. The 460 mag is one round which every shooter should try out at least once for the experience. It's guaranteed to put a grin on your face. For deer hunting, I'm definitely switching over to the 454 casull, so I can just wear regular ear plugs. |
I have the same model and can agree 100% with your range report. I shot mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago and had the same experience. Some guys on the rifle range looked over to see what was making such a loud boom. My first shot was a bullseye...and the rest were not.
I'm thinking of having mine blackened and replacing the front sight with a high visibility one. I guess it would turn into a 460 Magnum Night Guard. ![]()
