I just got this gun in a trade and I am unsure what to do with it. I'm not a collector and I don't really want to shoot this gun, ruining it's value. I feel someone else would appreciate the gun more then me. The gun is stunning and a truly beyond what I've seen in a new revolver. Of course I there are pictures. What do you think it would be worth to a S&W revolver collector?

It has a 3.5" pinned and recessed barrel, target sights, target grips, target trigger, and all the original accessories and paperwork.

If I had some spending money, I'd send you an offer on it right now, but since I'm broke, I'll just offer advice.

While the gun itself is not exactly uncommon, it is in high demand, and unfired examples are uncommon with presentation case and tools. That gun could sell on the S&W Forum in excess of a thousand dollars, provided the grips are factory original. The speedloader cutout grips usually come from a time very near when the 27-2 was changed to the -3. I don't have my S&W bible with me, but I think probably 2-3 years of overlap between that grip style and the 27-2. Unfortunately, the factory will have no way of confirming the type of target grips on the gun, and targets were rarely serialed to the gun.

If you'll IM me with the serial number, I'll check it when I get home tonight and do some more research on the grip timeframe, at least to narrow it down whether or not they are correct. Either way, that's a very popular pistola right now.

Got the same gun in a 5". Puts my python to shame. I can't bring myself to shoot it either. I think they are in the
650-850 range now. Not something I ever plan on selling. They are on a N frame and I think will be the gun to own
one day in smiths. Yours looks a lot later, I think mine serialed to a 1957 but I wouldn't swear to it without checking.

Unfired, I'd say $800-1000 as well, myself.

Damn fine looking gun too!

No joke, I WANT!

Looking at the standard catalog... the 3.5" barrel was discontinued in 1979.  So its older than that.  In 1961 they introduced the -2. '69 was N prefix serial #, and '75 introduced the TT, TH, and Goncalo Alves target stocks and case.

Pricing is odd, but listing under 1000 for the 3 screw ANIB, but I'd agree that it would more than likely sell close to 1k.

Have you posted this on the SWForum?

I did list it on there. I am trading it for a Les Baer Concept VII + $400. I bought the Colt commander for $750, shot it a bit, traded it for this, then added the cash and get a Les Baer.

So in the end I got a NIB Les Baer Concept VII for $1150, definitely worked out in my favor.

Double tap, so here's a picture of the Baer.

You have fine tastes sir.  Though I doubt I could have parted with the SW, I do like the looks of that LB.  Is it one of the tighter than a jr. high cheerleader versions, or one of his more recent where they supposedly loosened them up a bit?

I believe the gun is a few years old. The guy said he's had it for a while and just never shot it, safe queen if you will. I hope it's one of the super tight ones as I would like to see what those old Baers feel like. The S&W didn't really do anything for me and I have wanted a custom 1911 for a while, or should I say semi-custom?? I jumped on this deal like a fat kid on cake.
