Anything special I should know about a S&W Model 36?  This is an older one with a pinned barrel.  Any ammunition restrictions, like no +P, or any quality or wear issues with these revolvers?  Also, what kind of price would you look for on one in apparently good mechanical condition with some very minor holster wear?  Thanks.

S&W says any J-frame that is a "dash" model (36-1, 36-2, etc.) is rated for +P ammo. Having said that, I'm sure you know that a steady diet of +P will shoot it out of time, if not worse.

Value on the non-lock models have gone up a bit in the last 3-4 years. If your gun is 95-98%, I'd hazard a guess in the $350-400 range. Pristine models may fetch a bit more. Different regions of the country will factor in on value as well.

OTOH, with the current rush towards hi-caps, a J-frame might be bought for a bit under market value with a bit of dickering, IMO.

Good luck!

Don't put a lot of +P ammo through it.  It won't blow up the gun, but it will put extra strain on the hand and the bolt.  A steady diet of hot loads could cause it to go out of time, the cylinder doesn't line up with the bore properly.  This is an expensive repair and generally has to be done at the factory.  Many gunsmiths won't do it.

Fire a cylinder of carry ammunition first to see where it's shooting.  Then shoot range ammunition at the same point of aim,  The point of impact will probably be different, so just shoot for group size and don't change your aim from the hollow points.  Nice gun.
