In looking at some 45 LC brass a friend brought me to reload for him the cases have a bulge about 1/4 in from the rim.

It was fired in a ruger pistol and a rifle of the same calibur.(naturally)

At this time I don't know which gun fired the bulged cases.
The owner is to fire rounds from each gun to determine who the culprit is.

Any one had any experience with this?

Thanks Jim

I would suspect the rifle was a levergun, and I would also expect it to have an overly generous chamber (which is very common). You can resize it and it will probably fit most guns, however it will not fit in a Freedom Arms or anything with a correct chamber.

Have the cases been reloaded previously? The "bulge" may be nothing more than the spot where the carbide sizer ring stops.

Ruger .45 Colt chambers are normally cut on the generous side-my .45 Colt cases appear to have a bulge after being resized. If the loads he's shooting are low pressure, and the cases were previously reloaded, they may not be blowing back out enough to eliminate the ring from the previous sizing.

If the cases were fired in the revolver and they're actually bulged, then the chambers are too and he would definitely know which gun caused it--extraction would be extremely difficult.

Thanks for your reply.............

The cases have never been reloaded. I also believe the rifle is to blame.
I will find out......

If it fits in the chamber it will work. I had a HK 91 that would resize the ammo if it did not fit. That was a darn nice rifle. Wish I never sold it.
