Most guns are discontinued for slow sales. Other reasons are low profit margin per gun, quality control reasons, lack of spare parts, etc.

There were 3 that I knew of which came into this area (maybe/probably more), all 3 failed and were returned.

this thread is not complete without the pics of that guy blowing his thumb off (maybe it was a tarus, but it was a hand cannon)

It was a smith and the guy was a jackass. Gun had nothing to do with it

Rabon, do you remember the timeframe? The only place I ever saw one was at SHOT. When I heard they were coming out with them I cringed. I will stick with the Smith for the big boys

These showed up in the Summer/Fall of 06 IIRC, I took notice of them as I like the 500 S&W cartridge but didn't really care for the X Frame S&W chambered for it. I prefer S/A Revolvers but had eliminated the BFR due to the clyinder length (45-70 length which makes the  bfr chambered for the 500 Smith huge.), so I looked at the Taurus and kind of liked it's size when compared to the X Frame Smith however I had just rid myself of a 454 Raging Bull and figured the 500 Raging Bull would just be more of the same Raging Bull Shit. When the dust settled I gave up on the 500 Smith because I couldn't get it in a gun I really liked and went with the short cylinder bfr chambered for the 475 Linebaugh which works well, but it is still a very large Revolver to carry all day.
