| Why does the Ruger Alaskan in .44mag come with adjustable sights? The barrel is very short and I figured that most people who use this gun have it for self defense and carry it concealed. Why would you want adjustable sights if it is your hide away gun. I thought that the sights would snag or get knocked off center if caught on some garment. Am I just being too picky. I just dont see the need for adjustable sights on something with that short of a barrel. Can I special order the gun with fixed? |

You can almost carry 1-1/2 scandium guns too..... But my Alaskanized Ruger .44mag is Fun. Supposedly it was meant for really really close quarters, so I do not understand the adjustable sights myself, unless it was just an ease of manufacturing thing, since it is built on the SRH frame in the first place. I don't like being within handgun range of bears, much less the ideaof being so damn close that a 2-1/2" barrel becomes beneficial. Yeesh. For me it was fun factor and it is a bit easier to lug around my SRH without the extra length of barrel on it. |
2 guns: a 329PD .44mag and a .357 J Frame, go one in each handh, I would like to see fixed sights on the "angry bear stopping" type guns as well, I would rather not have to draw it on a bear that is thinking about eating me and suddenly be sans rear sight...maybe I'll just switch to the Scattergun Border Patrol I saw the other day... |
